Stromness is often bypassed when you arrive in Orkney on the Scrabster to Stromness ferry and that is unfortunate as it is a beautiful town with plenty to see and do. While on the ferry you should remember to pick up a tourism guide to Stromness, it is a free guide and explains the history of the town as well as the current town layout. On a warm sunny day there is nothing better than sitting outside watching the ferry port and enjoying a cool beer or a tasty meal (or both).
The Ferry Inn Stromness where you can enjoy a drink outside and watch the ferry and boats in the Stromness harbour. Stromness is a lovely town with plenty to see, so remember to spend a few hours exploring Stromness and it's historic past, restaurants, pubs and shops.

Stromness streets are narrow and paved in traditional stone. There is a number of shops to explore that have traditional Scottish gifts and clothing.
