Fossil Museum - Orkney Fossils, War and Crofting Life Exhibit and Restaurant. The exhibits are excellent and cover a collection of fossils that are fascinating. The upstairs are of the museum covers Orkney history and the World Wars and how this affected Orkney. The people are very friendly and helpful, and the food in the cafe / restaurant is recommended.
We enjoyed visiting the Fossil Museum in Orkney and you certainly get value for money as there is extra exhibits on Orkney life, crofting and the recent history affecting the islands including the Word Wars. Plan to spend at least an hour in the museum, or longer. There is ample car parking and an area where you can sit out and enjoy a coffee or drink in good weather.
Fossil Museum exhibits cover a wide range of fossils
The upstairs exhibits at the Fossil Museum cover aspects of Orkney's past and how people used to live (and dress) as well as historical information on the First and Second World Wars.
The outdoor exhibits show aspects of Orkney's farming past, you have to watch your head when entering these buildings as the doors are lower than we would expect in modern buildings - people were not as tall 100 years ago. Inside you will find milking, blacksmiths and other memories from Orkney's recent past, recent being over the last 100 years.
